Tournament/League Rules and Policies

SSNS Softball Home Team/ Tie Break Information

The following procedure will be used to decide the home team and to break ties:

The home team for all games except the crossover play-off games will be decided by a coin toss.

For crossover games, the highest seed team will be the home team.

The winning team is responsible for recording the game results in the Gray Jay app.

ROUND ROBIN

If a round robin game ends in a tie after regulation game, it will remain as a tie.

If games are at 5 innings after 60min of play, umpires will give the 1 open inning warming to both teams to end the game.

If two (2) teams are tied in a pool

Head to Head. The team which beat the other will be awarded the higher position.

If teams tied during round robin the team with the better runs for and against will be seeded higher.

If three (3) teams are tied in a pool

When this process is started, we must follow the steps below until all three teams are positioned.

1. If three teams are tied, positioning will be determined by (involving games among tied teams) difference plus or minus of total runs scored, with a limit of ten (10) Slo-Pitch, plus or minus per game, in 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 1/2, 7 1/2, 8 1/2, etc., innings back to 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc., full innings.

2. If three teams are still tied, the same method will be used for all games played.

3. If still tied, most runs scored among tied teams.

4. If still tied, most runs scored in total round robin.

5. If the three are still tied, the highest team will be chosen by a coin flip.

(Each team of the 3 tied will flip a coin, odd flip is awarded the lowest position and the other two teams then flip 1 coin for the higher position.)

CROSSOVER/PLAYOFFS

Seeding for Playoffs

Each pool winner will be seeded 1 to 3 and 2nd place in each pool will be seeded 4-6.  Seeding will be completed based on win percentages.  If there is a tie for win percentages then +/- percentages calculated using the # of games played. (ei. If team A wins 10-0, 10-0, 10-0 they are given a +30/3 = +10.  If team B wins 10-0, 10-0, 10-0, and 10-1= +9.75 so team A would be given the higher seed.

Seed 1 and 2 receive bye first round

Game 1: 3 v 6

Game 2: 4 v 5

Game 3 - 1 v lowest seed remaining

Game 4 - 2 v highest seed remaining

Game 5 - 3rd/4th place Game

Game 6 - Championship Game (Metro High School Banner awarded - Blue Banner) *See notes below

* Division 1 Regional Banner (white banner) will be awared to the top D1 team as determined by the playoff schedule

**During Playoffs, if 2 Division 2 schools play each other, then this game will be deemed the D2 Regional Championship.  If we do not have a game where the top 2 D2 schools play each other a D2 championship game will be scheduled.

*** Game 5 will only happen if SSNS determines we need to know the 3rd place D1 team to advance to Provincials.
